About Susanne Rützou

Susanne Rützou is a Copenhagen-based ceramic artist, and former fashion designer, who has been working with ceramics since 2017.

Susanne’s creative and sculptural approach to stoneware has grown from her profound fascination with the structures and variations of species of nature, whose artistic and poetic forms were merely created by biological expediency.

Her work is intuitive and exploring, and demonstrates a deep understanding and engagement with the aesthetics and tactility of nature - Inviting the viewer to experience and appreciate the beauty found in even the most ordinary natural occurrences.

She strives to challenge the clay’s natural will and persuade it to survive the firings despite the lightness and delicate balance of her objects.

Susanne’s creations are sensuously and emotionally charged and are like the intuitive language and DNA of a tree’s roots as they wind around stones and connect with others, driven by the need to grow progressively and ultimately become a unique individual despite its challenging environment.
